Sandy Bay - local name Coney Beach is a popular beach, with lots of golden sand and very few rocks.
Best Features: Fine quality golden sand.
Lifeguard cover? Lifeguard cover from May to September. Remember, no flag, no lifeguard.
Local Facilities and shops: Situated in front of a large fairground and seafront area with shops, café bars, fast food outlets and bars.
Great for kids? There is an entertainment complex which includes bowling, a food outlet, and amusements. Plus on the beach there are donkey rides, trampolines and bouncy castles.
How far are the toilets? There are toilets within the entertainment complex (with baby changing), plus toilet facilities in the Hi Tide bar.
Parking: Two car parks available, one beside the beach and one a few minutes walk away.
Public Transport: Bus service to Porthcawl provided by First Bus. Various direct services run from Bridgend, Cardiff and Swansea.
How about pets? No dogs allowed on the beach from May to September.
Other points of interest: Deck chairs available. An open market operates during peak season. Very close to Porthcawl harbour where the pleasure steamers Waverley and Balmoral leave for cruises along the Bristol Channel and to the Devon coastline.
Where is it? Leave the M4 at junction37 andfollow signs for Porthcawl town centre. At the forth roundabout bear left and you will see the Fairground and beach.
